Alexander VanStone is a filmmaker, musician, and event promoter based in the Washington, DC USA area.
Alexander VanStone's Story
Alexander VanStone began pursuing his interests in technology and entertainment as a middle schooler taking computer science classes at Northern Virginia Community College while also studying percussion in school and playing in bands with classmates.
As a high schooler he began a business booking local, regional, national, and international music acts at venues around Northern Virginia just outside Washington, DC.
His senior year he interned at the Green Party of the United States headquarters writing a monthly column, taking minutes in meetings with global contributors to the environmental movement, and handling merchandise orders.
VanStone booked four annual music festivals in Sterling, VA USA and played bass in a rock band he helped produce two records for and booked and managed two tours of the Eastern United States.
VanStone attended undergrad at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA USA where he received a Bachelors of the Arts in Integrative Studies in Film and Video Production with a minor in Art and Visual Technology focused on digital photography. He spent a semester of undergrad at Vȁxjȍ University in Vȁxjȍ, Sweden studying Concepts in Film from a Scandinavian Perspective and Swedish language.
Following undergrad VanStone moved to British Columbia, Canada where he studied Film Production at the Vancouver Film School. At VFS he directed his first short film.
After completing his studies Alex moved to Los Angeles, CA USA where he crewed on independent feature films as a key grip and lighting designer and on docu-series as a camera operator and media manager. Between larger productions VanStone directed several short films working with colleagues from the Hollywood production industry.
Later he went on to work at Warner Bros studios managing archival systems for The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Next, he served as Virtual Production Manager for Noitom International where he worked with motion capture technology and did animation, visual effects, and game development in Unreal Engine while also directing demonstration and marketing content for the company and representing Noitom at trade shows around the US.
VanStone relocated home to the DC area where he has returned to promoting live music events, performing music, and crewing on live event productions, and continues his work as an Unreal Engine developer/animator/filmmaker.
